3 Basic Steps for Computer Virus Prevention

These steps are for computer virus prevention. Computer virus prevention is generally much easier thancomputer virus removal. There are three main rules to follow that will help prevent your computer from getting infected by viruses:

Tips to Speed Up Windows 7

Windows 7 is a vast improvement over its predecessor Vista: it’s faster, handles memory resources more efficiently, and provides better security features. Still, upgrading to 7 is not necessarily going to speed up your system for you. If you’re currently having problems with a slow Windows 7 computer, there are several things you can do to help speed it up.

How to install windows 7 to a virtual hard drive(VHD)

Windows 7 has a really useful feature called “VHD Boot”. With that you can boot your entire Windows out of a Virtual Hard Disk file (as those used with Virtual PC or Virtual Server).

This VHD file is mounted as a virtual disk, you can use it as a normal hard disk drive, but all the data is stored in ONE file. The machine is booted physically (unlike with Virtual PC), so you can only run one at a time, but have the full machine’s power.

Install windows 7 from a hard drive or usb stick

At some point you will need to make a fresh install windows 7 from a usb disk or an internal HDD.
Just follow the instructions bellow an u won't encounter any problems

First format the target disk as NTFS and copy the boot and sources directory and the bootmgr file from the Windows 7 DVD  or Image to the root of the newly formatted disk.
Start a command prompt and issue the following commands - where x is the drive letter of the newly formmated disk.

Enable god mode in Windows 7!

Windows 7 has a neat little interface that's hidden by default that exposes most of the common OS configurations. To access it, create a new empty folder and rename it to :

 GodMode.{ED7BA470-8E54-465E-825C-99712043E01C}

Making a USB Windows 7 System repair key

I’m replacing my DVD drive with a second harddrive bay and the only reason I currently need the DVD is in case I need to do a system repair, to start the windows repair utility.

Annoyingly the System repair utility doesn’t allow you to specify a USB drive as the destination for your repair disc.

How to Create a System Repair Disk in Windows 7 and Vista

You can create a system repair disk in Windows 7 and Windows Vista to guard against being unable to start Windows correctly. The repair disk loads the Windows Recovery Environment, which contains the recovery tools to repair/recover your unbootable Windows system.

Note that you can also use the Windows 7/Vista DVD to boot to Windows Recovery Environment. This guide is for those who own a OEM computer (with no Operating System CD/DVD), and those who want to maintain a CD exclusively for recovery scenarios.

The new generation of Malware: Scareware!

Today I want to talk about scareware. Scareware, similar to Malware (short for malicious software) is designed to scare you into thinking your computer is infected. These type of infections are no longer restricted to porn surfers or users that download pirated software.

Typically, scareware will pop up on your screen in the form of a realistic looking "scan" After a few moments you will be notified that you have 100's of infections. This is intended to scare the user into interacting with the program to "remove" the infections. If you click the remove button you will generally be shown a window that states that most of the "infections" have been removed but for the remaining few you will need to upgrade to the professional version of the program. The average user will get their credit card out and this is when the real problem starts. You give your credit card information to pay for the $29, $39 or $49 professional version.

Troubleshooting Blue Screen of Death Errors

Any frequent Windows user has encountered the big bad BSOD, short for the Blue Screen of Death. This common error will make its presence known whenever the system senses that an application, piece of hardware or device driver is experiencing issues behind the scenes. What makes this particular issue so tricky is that it can be an indicator of anything from a minor glitch to a major error that causes your system to malfunction and leave you staring at the infamous blue screen.

Windows Will Not Start

If your Windows computer will not start, there are several things you can do to help diagnose the problem. You first need to take notice of any beeps or error messages the computer is giving you. Sometimes it will show a blank screen or just a flashing cursor, but even those are clues and can help eliminate other things as possibilities. Diagnosing startup problems is only the first step; fixing the problem can be as easy as a few mouse clicks or as complicated as replacing a CPU or motherboard.

Computer Monitor is Blank

If your computer monitor is blank, you need to determine if the problem is the monitor or the PC. But it can also be caused by bad power and video cables, or even a bad power source. So if your monitor is blank, these steps should help you determine isolate the problem. Keep in mind there are a lot of factors that can contribute to a blank monitor, such as a bad video card, motherboard or power supply in the PC. On the monitor side, you could have issues with its power supply, cables or the LCD backlight itself.

Troubleshooting Hard Drives!

The hard drive in your system may be an IDE or a SATA. IDE is the older variety, with the long, flat ribbon cable connector. SATA drives began appearing a couple of years ago. Gone is the flat ribbon cable. In its place is a thick serial cable.

You hard drive will have jumper on the rear. On IDE drives, these jumpers indicate which HDD is the Master and Slave. Yu can even configure a jumper to indicate which place on the cable determines who is the boss. This is called Cable Select. Either Cable Select or Master / Slave modes are fine, but the drives must be set up one way or the other.

BSOD Errors- the nightmare of all windows users

The biggest problem with the "Blue Screen Of Death" is that most of the times it just flashes by and you don't even get to read it so you don't know what caused it, but thankfully there is a tool that can find out and it's called
BlueScreenView.
